She Disciplines Herself: Deepening Your Faith Through Bible Reading

In Matthew Chapter 4, we find Jesus in the wilderness, being tempted by the devil after fasting for forty days and nights. This passage highlights the importance of living by every word that comes from the mouth of God. As believers, we need to discipline ourselves and engage with the Bible regularly. In this blog post, we will discuss four practical suggestions for consistent success in Bible reading.

1. Setting Aside Time:

Finding time to read the Bible is a common challenge for many people. You don't have to spend hours every day; starting with just a few minutes can make a significant difference. By dedicating at least five minutes each day to reading God's word, you can experience its transformative power. As busy parents, consider grabbing brief moments when your children are sleeping or occupied to invest in your spiritual growth.

2. Choosing the Right Time of Day:

While there is no one-size-fits-all approach, finding the best time of day for Bible reading can enhance your experience. Some individuals prefer reading in the evening, while others find the morning more suitable. Morning readings offer a fresh start, allowing you to reflect on God's word throughout the day. If mornings seem challenging, consider practical strategies like placing scriptures around your house as reminders.

3. Utilize Reading Plans:

A wide variety of Bible reading plans are available, making it easier to stay on track. Online platforms like Blue Letter Bible, YouVersion, or devotionals like Our Daily Bread offer diverse plans to choose from. These plans can guide your reading, provide insights, and foster accountability as you journey through Scripture. Local churches often have reading plans too, which can make it more meaningful to engage with others in your community.

4. Meditate on One Word or Phrase:

Sometimes, we read the Bible but struggle to remember or comprehend what we read. To overcome this, try meditating on one word or phrase from the passage. By breaking down the verse and exploring its meaning, you can gain deeper insights. Additionally, looking up the original Greek or Hebrew words can provide a richer understanding of the text. Stepping back to consider the verse within the larger context is crucial to grasp its intended message.

Living by every word that comes from the mouth of God requires us to engage with the Bible intentionally. By setting aside time, choosing an optimal time of day, utilizing reading plans, and meditating on specific words or phrases, we can develop consistency in our Bible reading. Remember, the goal is not to fulfill all disciplines simultaneously but to cultivate a habit of immersing ourselves in God's word regularly. May these practical suggestions help you deepen your relationship with God and experience the transforming power of His Word.
