My Top 5 Bible Reading Resources

Updated: Mar 4

Welcome back, ladies! In today's blog post, I want to share with you my top five Bible reading resources that have helped me develop strong reading disciplines and deepen my spiritual walk. Over the years, I've discovered several valuable books and tools that have guided me in studying the Bible and growing closer to God. So, without further ado, let's dive right into these resources.

#1 - "How to Study the Bible for Yourself" by Tim LaHaye

This book has been one of my all-time favorites when it comes to studying the Bible effectively. LaHaye provides practical tips and step-by-step instructions on how to discipline yourself in daily Bible reading. He suggests reading chapters several times, maintaining a diary, memorizing verses, doing frequent Bible studies, and developing a daily prayer routine. What makes this resource even more valuable is that LaHaye offers topic-specific verses and tools to guide you through different sections of the Bible, such as Jesus' teachings and parables.

#2 - "365 Days to the New Testament and Psalms"

If you prefer a guided devotional approach, this book is perfect for you. It provides daily readings and devotionals specifically focusing on the New Testament and Psalms. Each day includes warm-up exercises, questions for reflection, applying the Word, and responding in prayer. With this book, you'll have structured steps and disciplines to follow as you immerse yourself in God's Word throughout the year.

#3 - "Study Bible" with Reading Plan

Many study Bibles come with built-in reading plans to guide you through the entire Bible. The Life Application Bible, for example, contains a 365-day reading plan at the back. You can easily access the suggested daily readings and start your journey right away. Using a paper Bible alongside an app like YouVersion can help you follow along with the reading plan and explore the commentary and additional resources in the app.

#4 - Create a Sunday Sermon Reading Plan

Every Sunday, our pastors deliver powerful Bible lectures that leave us motivated and inspired. To help us prepare, they send out detailed emails, providing study materials and thought-provoking questions. It's crucial to spend time reading the designated passages and engaging with the content prior to Sunday. Personally, I love using the inductive Bible study method, where I highlight key phrases and ask questions to dive deeper into the text. Another option is to use the questions provided by our pastors, which are carefully crafted to guide our reflections. I find it helpful to use a bible with a note taking section so that I can easily refer back to them later. I highly recommend the Legacy Standard Bible, the most recent update of the New American Standard version.

#5 - Three Year Daily Devotional Guide to the Whole Bible

If you're craving a deeper study experience, I highly recommend exploring this resource. It delves into specific sections of the Bible, offering multiple questions to ponder. You can take your time and focus on one question at a time, allowing for a more in-depth exploration of God's Word. This has been incredible for intensifying my connection with specific passages and themes.

Remember, spiritual disciplines are essential for our growth as Christians and to help us become more like Jesus. These resources have been an integral part of my spiritual journey, providing guidance, structure, and fresh insights into God's Word. I encourage you to dive into these materials and embark on a journey toward a healthier spiritual life. Don't forget to check out my podcast series, "She Disciplines Herself," where I delve deeper into the spiritual disciplines discussed in these resources. It's an incredible opportunity to gain further inspiration and understanding.

Thank you so much for reading, and may your faith continue to make you well. God bless!
